Alexandria Part 1

I have not been good recently about consistently updating my blog, and I'm a few weeks behind. Earlier this month I had an "Intern Retreat" in Alexandria on the university's tab. Here are some of the highlights:

 
This is the Qaitbay fortress, built on the site where the famous Alexandria Lighthouse - one of the seven wonders of the world - once stood.

 
Here is the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina, built near where the old library was. It is an incredible piece of architecture, descending down 11 stories or so, and you can see the view from the top level looking down in the next picture.

 

 
I found one of my all-time favorite books inside the library, a 2000 page chinese war epic titled Three Kingdoms.
